(This was written by purchaser's daughter, the shoes were ordered for my son) I bought these shoes on 4/11/12 for my 7 year old son who goes through one pair of shoes a month, we received them the next day!! On 5/27/2012 I noticed that the soles, which is the part he wears out, were still in good shape, the the material at the big toes had separated from the sole, creating a big hole. Additionally, the laces have worn so thin that I'm expecting them to snap any day now. Keen only offers a 30 day warranty, but I'm applying for an exchange anyhow as it's only been 6 weeks. UPDATE! Keen sent me a $60 GC to buy a new pair of shoes from their web store! They also send free replacement laces for the life of the shoe. GREAT customer service!

I purchased a pair of shoes for my son and daughter last year before our trip to the Badlands, Rushmore, and Yellowstone. The shoes are very durable and stayed together for all the hiking, climbing, and pouncing though the water that you could imagine and they still looked nice. The kids wore them as tennis shoes at school all school year as well.
My son has some difficulties tying shoes and it was hard to find shoes that didn't need to be tied at the size he was wearing. The slide on these was an excellent option for him.
After a year, I finally saw wear on the shoes. If the shoes get submerged a lot and dried hot, the rubber toe tends to separate from the fabric but that happened towards the end of the life of the shoe. The sole showed some wear after a year but still had tread on them. I had no separation on the sides of the shoe.
I loved these shoes so much. I have bought the whole family another set for this coming school year.

I've got small, really small (size 2 / 2.5), feet, so even as an adult woman I need to buy kids' shoes. Avoiding the overly cute and finding something that isn't designed to be discarded in 6 months is tricky, but these Keen hikers show promise. I haven't had them long (a few weeks), but they were comfortable right out of the box and others' reviews indicate that Keen shoes should last. I like having laces since I've found that the elastic gores on other shoes get loose before the rest of the shoe wears out -- laces can be replaced, as well as adjusted for a better fit each time I wear the shoes. The shoes are lightweight compared to some hikers I've worn, which means I can walk a bit longer without feeling like I'm wearing rocks at the end of a hike. The grey & purple scheme is pretty calm, which also makes me happy. Not sure yet how waterproof they are (I've only tromped through a bit of dew really), but I'm hopeful.
